This is the first paragraph of Panama. Again, it is a strange book. I was looking for quotes, but they are too pointed in various general ways (and yes, that is surely possible.) Or, looking at them again, I think they look less than spectacular, even though they mean something to me. And they are almost all inappropriately solipsistic, perhaps.

This is the first time I've worked without a net. I want to tell the truth. At the same time, I don't want to start a feeding frenzy. You stick your neck out and you know what happens. It's obvious.
